Shasta Literacy Department

The Shasta Literacy Department offers FREE literacy services to the public!

We provide educational services and resources for adults and their families in Shasta County who need reading and writing support. The Shasta Literacy Department is grant-funded, so the program is free which includes the books and study materials. Shasta Literacy is a California Library Literacy Services grant program and has been in operation in Shasta County since 1983. Our goal is to end the cycle of illiteracy in Shasta County. Our program is learner-centered and goal-driven. Our volunteer tutors are guides and mentors to help adult learners gain the skills they need to accomplish their unique goals.

We have tutors and classes at all 3 branches of the Shasta Public Libraries system: Redding, Burney, and Anderson.

If you want to become a Shasta Literacy learner and get help by improving your reading and writing skills, contact the literacy department inside the Redding Library at (530) 245-7237 or email literacy@shastalibraries.org
